Northern Gardens / A McGruder Film Project by Marlos E'van

Northern Gardens intends to capture areas in North Nashville as they currently exists during the housing/real estate boom. With the landscape quickly changing in neighborhoods like Buchanan and Jefferson St.; these historically Black neighborhoods become important to document, archiving for future generations. The film project will explore different aspects of culture in North Nashville thru performance art, visual art, music, and interviews with several figures in the area. Documentation of the north will include car rides thru the neighborhoods, historic buildings both functional and abandoned, and members of the community itself. Aside from documentation, portions of the films will also highlight businesses, creative people, and institutions such as TSU, Fisk, and MeHarry.

Funding thanks to Metro Arts and National Endowment for the Arts
